I am eager to know your opinion about medications for a child who is thought to have AD/HD, but whose doctor is unwilling/unable to make the diagnosis, yet says the child (who is both in great subjective distress and impaired to a significant degree across settings) would benefit from only one category of medications; specifically, the psychostimulants.

Is it necessary to meet all the diagnostic criteria for AD/HD to be prescribed those medications?

Or:
How bad does a headache have to be before you take something for it?

Thank you.
