Sitting here this morning — reading the goals so many of you shared — I can’t help but be humbled by some of the things you want for yourself and your family. There are goals ranging from "renewing devotionals" to structuring the day through summer…and so much more. The goals listed here cover all different topics and levels of commitment.

If you haven’t seen what goals I’m talking about, or want to share yours, there is still time.

As I think about my own goals, and the goals you want, it occurred to me that there are many types of goals…none right and none wrong. Just many types of goals that all require careful planning, commitment, and execution. And honestly, there are many different ways of achieving your goals.

Now…some might argue this point with me and in fact, I started thinking about a talk I heard from Raymond Aaron. Raymond is arguably one of the foremost experts on goal setting and achieving your goals. Quite honestly, I’m not sure what we are doing here would align with Raymond’s secret formula…but then again, we are working on this (and learning) together.

For me, setting goals relies on two things:

Being very clear (and specific about what you want)

Setting a target date for completion

Taking precise action to work towards that goal…

Okay, so there are 3 things I’ve mentioned. And there are probably even more steps we could put in place… But I want to be specific and want to make sure we take ACTION towards completing these goals.

Let’s Take Action (Together)!

We can do any number of things today… We can each catch up on the progress of our goals, or we can talk about setting a target completion date in mind.

For me – I’m going to jump ahead for a moment and introduce the idea of "What will success (or completion of our goal) look like?"

Maybe this needs to be a 4th step to the three outlined above. We can’t go anywhere (or at least won’t get there) without knowing what the end result will look like.

***So go ahead and think about what your goals will look like when they are done….

Write it down below… Keep it in a journal… Just put in writing so you can declare and track what you are after.

More to follow….

Today I’d like you to join me in delcaring your goals and intentions for the summer. Each year, on this very day, I think about summer as a fresh start to bring new beginnings. And for the last few years, I have not really accomplished everything that I had hoped for..

I am NOT going to beat myself up over this.

I could easily spend a lot of time doing that!

Last summer my family had more unscheduled and unnecessary trips than we could have ever imagined,. That dramtically affected the work I was able to get done. But that’s neither here nor there…

Today, I’d like to share my goals with you and in return I’d like to give you the chance to be my support partner in a "challenege " where we help one another and get more done. The bottom line is that when you declare your intentions and share them out loud – there is a greater chance you will get them done. On top of that, by sharing your goals with others – you create built-in accountability and motivation to get things done.

Here’s How It Works:

Each day or (whenever I update), I’ll share progress of my goals and I’ll ask for you to do the same in the comments section. Success comes from sharing your goals and declaring your intentions. I hope you will join me so that we can all get the most of the summer months.

Your goals can be personal, business, or family…

My Goals:

Take weekends off from work

Create more content for ADHDFamilyOnline.com

Outline, structure, and complete 2 reports

Finalize arrangements with experts and contributors

As the summer goes one, I will refine and update (and get more specific) on what these goals mean to me, and how I intend to accomplish them. I’d love to hear your thoughts…but more importantly I’d love for you to share your goals with us!

It’s 2008 – I can hardly believe it!

I didn’t anticipate taking the entire holiday vacation off from blog posting, but it just sort of happened. And it felt good!

It felt good to take a break.

But I have to admit – there was a big part of me that missed the interaction. I missed writing and sharing information.

Thank goodness 2008 is upon us!

So, what do you have planned for the New Year?

Resolutions Vs. Goals

This time of year we hear alot about setting “resoltuions,” but I like goals better. Goals can work anytime, and truthfully, most of us give up on resolutions rather quickly. We just get busy and throw them aside.

So, what goal(s) do you have for the New Year?

What would you like to be different about this year?

What do you want to change in your life?

To get started, choose 1 reasonable goal and work towards it everyday. It’s just that simple! There is no failure – only success when you reach your goal, OR when you notice a change.

In the meantime, I will be back to check in with you that goal.

My Goals:

I have a great deal planned for this blog, my ADHD newsletter, and the information I am going to share with you all in the months to come. Part of me wants to give you a teaser, but then again, there is an even greater part of me who wants to show you – rather than tell you!

Keep your eyes peeled. It’s gonna be a wild ride.

P.S. – I will return to the regular format later this week to continue where I left off!
